What are your wedding colors and/or themes?
Since the fall in the Berkshires is so colorful, we wanted to keep our colors very natural to let the foliage shine through. We used neutrals, creme, and greenery to let the beautiful property at Stonover Farm speak for itself at its fall finest.
What is your inspiration when planning your wedding?
Although we live in downtown Boston, we knew we wanted to get married somewhere more remote and rustic. The Berkshires was a perfect middle point between our families in Boston and New York, and allowed us to have the intimate barn wedding and weekend getaway we were hoping for. Stonover Farm became our home for the long Columbus Day weekend, with our immediate families staying at the inn and hosting multiple events there throughout the weekend. We wanted our guests to take advantage of the beautiful Berkshires during their trip, so we had 30 of our guests join us on a hike the day before the wedding, and hosted everyone for drinks at a local photography gallery the night before the main event.
Did you incorporate any fun themes/motifs or design elements?
We kicked the reception off with a toast to all our family and friends – we placed personalized champagne bottles at each table and asked everyone to pop and toast. Hearing so many champagne bottles popping at once was an incredible moment. Since we love to travel, we decided to feature maps with pictures of our visits to our favorite travel destinations around the world for the seating plan and table numbers. Taking advantage of being in the Berkshires, we made sure to weave New England-inspired cuisine throughout – including local and seasonal food, especially at dessert when the apple cider donuts were a huge hit – and topped the night off with s’mores and sparklers.
Did you include any special traditions, old or new?
We had Jewish traditions throughout the ceremony, and made sure to include the symbolism that was most meaningful to us. Abel wore a kippah made by Emily’s mother and wore his late grandfather’s wedding ring. Emily wore her mother’s earrings and included her great grandmother’s lace hankerchief in her bouquet. For the ceremony, we used Abel’s grandfather’s kiddish cup and Abel’s great grandmother’s candlesticks. At the reception, we offered homemade challah made by us and Abel’s brothers, and kicked off the dance party with a raucous hora.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
The band killed it. The dance floor was packed the entire night and we could feel the floor of the barn shaking. Luke and Molly from Clark+Walker somehow captured it all. They were both in the thick of the action all night and the photographs speak for themselves. At one point Molly even got onto the shoulders of one of our guests during a particularly lively song and the resulting pictures of the dance floor chaos are amazing.
The whole weekend was a blast. We are so incredibly grateful for all of our family and friends who were there to celebrate with us and for the wonderful people who we worked with to make it all happen.
