What are your wedding colors and/or themes?
Our wedding colors are blush pink, cream, light yellow, champagne sequin and touches of gold. We tried to use neutral colors so that everything flowed together and went with the gold ballroom at Penn Oaks.

What is your inspiration when planning your wedding?
Since we chose to get married in June, we knew that we wanted to have a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces for our reception. Penn Oaks was the perfect balance for us with a ballroom and a tented outdoor patio. It was so much fun to have the dance floor out on the patio and to be able to feel the summer breeze coming through. We also knew that we wanted to incorporate touches that were personal to us as a couple, such as our signature drinks, pictures of us throughout the venue, and the different foods we chose.

Did you incorporate any fun themes/motifs or design elements?
A small theme that ran throughout our wedding was lobsters. This may seem random to most, but the lobster holds a great significance to us. We began lobster fishing about 4 years ago in Gloucester, MA. We did super well catching about 25 lobsters the first year so we continued on with this fun activity. To Maddie’s surprise, in July of 2014, Spencer proposed using a lobster trap. He had Maddie pull the trap out of the water. She saw a note inside and turned around to see Spencer on one knee asking her to marry him. Maddie was completely surprised and said yes! Then, they celebrated with champagne and personalized champagne glasses that were also in the trap. We ended up using the same lobster trap that Spencer used to propose as the card box at our reception. We also had lobster cookies created by Wegman’s for our end of the night favors. The cookie-cutter lobster-shaped sugar cookies had our initials on them and our wedding date. We wanted to incorporate elements the of summer at our reception also. The lobster theme goes along with this, as do our signature drinks. Tinto de Verano is a refreshing summer drink from Spain and the Firefly drink represents the amazing amount of fireflies you can see around our homes during the summer. We also wanted to cool people off with an ice cream bar at the end of the night. The table names express a summery feel too as they show all the important places we have traveled to, often during the summer. Finally, the fireworks at the end of the night added the perfect summer touch.

Did you include any special traditions, old or new?
Maddie’s mom’s family has a tradition at weddings that continued at ours. The Martin cousins always wear funny masks or headpieces to the Cordts weddings. The choice of mask is a surprise and they make a random appearance during the reception. At our wedding, the entire Cordts and Martin clan ran out on the dance floor wearing lobster headbands dancing to the song Rock Lobster. We were completely surprised and loved that they chose to wear lobsters. We had a blast dancing all together to Rock Lobster with our lobster headbands bouncing all around. It was so special to have this family tradition carried out at our wedding!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
We had the most amazing time at our wedding. Thanks to the love of our families and friends we could not have had a more perfect day.
