What are your wedding colors and/or themes?
I grew up in southern Vermont and always loved the kelly green and white aesthetic of the Equinox resort, and how it mimics the surrounding green mountains. To me, it is quintessential New England. We didn’t feel the need to stick to overly coordinated color themes, but worked within green and white accented with peach and cool gray. Though we weren’t too stringent on it, having a ‘color theme’ did help to pull everything together cohesively.
What is your inspiration when planning your wedding?
Our number one goal was for our wedding to be fun! We wanted everything – including what could be mundane planning tasks, like seating charts – to be as much fun as possible. I think it helped to keep things light throughout and definitely set the tone… we had an absolute blast!
Did you incorporate any fun themes/motifs or design elements?
Bobby’s super talented cousin, Anna (owner/founder of Cast and Company), created all of our stationary, designs and paper goods. She used lace swatches from my dress to create the floral designs and sketched a playful version of the iconic Equinox resort that were incorporated throughout the wedding on various things like programs, welcome bags, invitations, table numbers, etc.
Having grown up in Vermont, many of our college and out-of-town friends had visited with us over the years, but a number hadn’t spent time in Manchester or Vermont. We loved ‘sharing’ what we consider such a special place with them (side bar: we actually met in VT after college, even though we went to the same school). We had fun activities going on throughout the weekend; hikes, tennis round-robins, multiple golf outings, trap shooting – to get people out and about in the area. We continued the ‘Vermont theme’ with welcome bags and favors, that included some of our local favorites, like Grafton Village cheese and Westminster crackers, Lake Champlain Chocolates, and our friends at The Bakery in Rutland even made mini bread loaves with little jars of local honey!
Did you include any special traditions, old or new?
Unfortunately, Bobby’s Grandparents could not be there for our ceremony. When his parents were married, it was important to them that the Groomsmen and Groom wear morning dress. This attire is quite a bit more formal than we are, but we were so happy to follow in their footsteps and honor the request. In a way, it made us feel more connected to them, despite the distance. As a bonus, the guys all looked really sharp!
